More Experiments with Portraits and Color

So I completed another portrait a few days ago. This one is also of a familiar character. My biggest thing I was working on is more detail in the color. Especially the hair. There is a lot of detail in hair.

I also tried a little something different with the lips. I decided not to have quit as much hard lines on the lips. It was a grand experiment because it gets me out of my comfort zone somewhat. However, since lips is something I struggle with anyway, why not dip my toes in some discomfort if it means I get closer to achieving what I want.

In this case, it turned out rather nicely. The lips look way more natural than they have in the past. I still struggle with shape, but maybe if I don’t go for quite so defined lines with the lips it’ll balance out.

Below is a time lapse of my drawing just so you can see how it evolved during its inception. I must say, I’ve become enamored of doing these time lapses. Let’s me go over what I did and what I would do differently. Cheers!
