Figure Drawing

I have been working on my figure drawing as of late. My finished drawings have been mostly of Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen. However, I have just been doing practice figures without finishing. It’s not that I’ve abandoned them, I have just been using them as practice. For anyone who wished to get into drawing comics, figure drawing practice is absolutely indespesible. I have struggled for years to get it right. One day I realized that if I try to finish every figure I start, I won’t get better. If I just focus on the body shape and positioning and then move on to another body and postiton, then I’ll get more practice in.

The idea is to figure out what works and what doesn’t. Take these drawings in Figure 1 for example. The jumping figure has all the right perspective. The crawling figure needs some work. I think its the torso shape. If this were a drawing I would want to finish, I would probably spend WAY too much time trying to fix it.

All in all, I’m feeling pretty good about them. Just getting nit picky.

I’m hoping that re-thinking my workflow in terms of just focusing on the figures is what needs to be done. This plateau I hit for a few months really did a number on how I view my content. Even something simple like Figure 2 was getting infuriating. I think just focusing on where the joints are pointing and where the limbs are going is going to go a long way in my progress.

I think I had moved so far away from simple standing poses that I actually forgot how to draw them. I think I’m going to try to find a happy balance between dynamic and static poses.

I think also, I’m going to revamp my Art Page to be a little more reflective of this. I want to create a figure drawing pose page for anyone who wants to use them as reference images. I have taken advantage of images from all over the internet to use as reference. It’s about time I return the favor.

I’ve already revamped my splash page to reflect my more recent work. I also made it a little more clean. I wanted to make the slideshow of my work a background, but I haven’t quite been able to do that with my current hosting software. (Coding and Programming is not my thing...) If there’s anyone out there who uses Weebly, let me know in the comments and tell me if there’s a way to make this happen.
Anyway, I hope this post reaches you safely and in good health. I will continue to document my journey and I will add more work to my galleries. Catch you all later!
